What is Restorative Yoga?

Restorative yoga is a gentle, calming style of yoga that uses props and long‑held, supported postures to allow the body to rest deeply. Unlike more active forms of yoga, restorative practice emphasizes comfort, stillness, and ease.

Each session offers time and space to pause, settle, and reconnect—without striving or pushing.

Why People Choose Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga may be especially supportive if you’re:

  • Feeling stressed, tired, or stretched thin

  • Navigating burnout, retirement, or a career shift

  • Moving through grief, caregiving, or emotional transition

  • New to yoga and curious about a gentle place to begin

  • This practice is not about changing your body—it’s about supporting it.

New to Yoga? You're Welcome Here

You don’t need prior yoga experience, flexibility, or special equipment.

Soul Serenity welcomes beginners, people of color, people in larger bodies, and those whose bodies or experiences may not feel reflected in traditional yoga spaces.

Classes are guided with care and simplicity, offering space for rest, support, and individual pacing, and honoring:

  • Supported rest

  • Gentle pacing

  • Stillness and breath

  • Listening to your own needs

You’re invited to participate in the way that feels best for you.

In Their Words

People often describe restorative yoga as a permission slip to rest. Here are a few reflections.

Gerry

Class attendee

Dr. Dee brings a gentleness and caring spirit to her restorative yoga teaching. She creates an environment of safety, peace and stillness that nurtures the body and soul. Her innate kindness and attention to detail greatly enhances the experience. I came away feeling calm, relaxed and refreshed. Thank you Dr. Dee.

H.

Participant, online class

I really enjoyed the online session and actually think it helped me sleep better!

L.

Beginner Student

I never took restorative before. It's not offered by me. It's wonderful! I wish Dee lived closer to me. I would love to sign up for her in-person classes.

A.J. Hardy

Beginner Student

As someone new to restorative yoga, I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor. Dr. Dee creates a calming, welcoming space and explains everything in a way that’s easy to follow. I always leave class feeling relaxed, supported, and refreshed—such a gift in today’s world.

Recent Reflections from Participants

I’m Dee, the founder of Soul Serenity. After many years in public health, I was drawn to restorative yoga as a way to create spaces that honor rest, stillness, and human dignity—especially during times of transition.

This work reflects a deep belief in rest as essential to well‑being, not something to earn.
